From Nouveau To Deco

Last night Rob and I went to the Detroit Art Deco Society show. (It's a bunch of antique dealers and we got to shop early for the really good stuff.) I normally don't buy myself jewelry because I tend to make myself what I want, but last night I spotted something extra special. This necklace and other's similar to it were locked away in an old building in Czechoslovakia from the 1920's. Someone bought the building and discovered a bunch of them locked away in a vault and has been selling them to this antique dealer in the U.S. I had a hard time deciding because they were all different but I finally settled on the aqua necklace above. If you want to see more of these lovely beauties or maybe even buy one be  sure and visit the site and read all about them. Be warned!!!! They are not for the faint of wallet and carry a hefty price tag. (At least it's free to look.)

Somehow I totally forgot to post any images yesterday. I feel like the whole day just vanished.

Postcards From All Over

As I promised yesterday, here is the postcard book that I was finally able to assemble. Everyone that came to the retreat this year made their own postcard that was about where they lived and had to include a photo of themselves on it somewhere. After we all exchanged cards we made our own covers and assembled them into a book. What a fabulous keepsake! (In case you're wondering the blurred section of each postcard is the persons home address and email info.)

Inside front cover

I LOVE that Sue used her own face on the bathing beauty.

See if you can spot Teri on this hilarious postcard.

Gina and Marita did their together since they live so close to each other. PFF means Pillow Fairy's Forever. They do little gifts for us each night of the retreat that we receive on our pillow.

Karen included this postcard so that all of us would have the recipe for the fabulous drinks she made us.  (The art got a little more "loose" after about an hour of drinking. )

This is my postcard and the back inside cover has a bunch of inches that Lillian made for all of us.

My outside back cover. I thought the image of these men on the Graphic 45 "Boardwalk" paper that I had was too cute not to use. The asterisk says "Except Tim & Mario". (That would be Tim Holtz.)

I must say that the mechanical fly is cool but you have to wonder why someone even thought about doing it back then.

A Strong Northeastern a Blowin'

In case any of you were wondering why I have been a little quiet or maybe the better word is preoccupied. It's because I have been dealing with this small disaster in our front yard. We had very high winds last Monday and it blew down 2 separate branches from this large maple. The first one came down when I was out running errands. I decided to go out after lunch to do some gardening and to also pull the smaller branch out of the tree to cut it up. As I was ending my lunch and watching the last 10 minutes of a show on the DVR I heard a huge crash outside. (The large windows facing the camera is where our living room is situated.) Needless to say I jumped 3 ft. in the air and  Dexter made a bee-line in the opposite direction. (Fine guard dog he turned out to be.) When I looked out the window I felt the color drain out of my face. You see I planned to take a bunch of ferns out of our garden in very corner where the tree branch fell. I also usually tie Dexter to the maple tree so he can be outside with me while work. Whoever it was that was looking out for me that day, all I have to say is a very big THANKS!

The Postman Cometh

I actually finished this a couple of weeks ago but I kept forgetting to take photos of it. This was the project we did in Key Largo with Kathy Orta from Paper Phenomenon to house all of the "Mail Love" we had been sending each other over the past year.

I decided to use a different set of papers that Kathy had available because they were the exact colors of my workshop and adjoining bathroom which is where this will probably end up.

Even the back is pretty!

Even though they all look like drawers they are in fact albums with pockets to hold all the mail we received.

We are supposed to continue the Mail Love project for another year but we are going to have to make another project to hold it all because all of my albums are mostly full.

Album 1 has small pockets on one side and envelopes on the other to hold a lot of stuff.

Album 2 has accordion style pockets that will expand to hold even more stuff.

Be sure and check back tomorrow to see the postcards project we all did for our art exchange in the Keys.
