Time for More Big Hats

It's really too bad that women don't wear hats anymore. Of course I think I look terrible in them but they are such a fashion statement.

What In My Drawers? (it's the day after Wednesday)

Click on the picture to see a larger view.

I forgot again that I was supposed to post this yesterday. I swear I am still behind after having watched the kids for my sister-in-law.

The top drawer is all of my wire. A lot of it I got at the local craft store but I also love to lurk in the home improvement centers to see what I can discover to use in my crafting. My favorite aisles are the electrical wiring and the hardware aisle with all the screws, nuts bolts and other odd pieces of attachments.

The bottom drawer is all my wire tools. (It made sense to post them together.) Here I have my wire jig, jump ring makers, wire twister, and whatever else I need to work with wire. My pliers I keep in a little organizer on my desk because I was always having to get up to rummage through this drawer. The organizer is nice because there is a slot that holds each pair of pliers with the handles facing me so I all have to do is grab them and they are positioned in my hand perfectly.

Let's Play Dress-Up

I know it's early for Halloween but I decided it would be fun to play dress-up today. It always amazes me what costumes these victorian models agreed to. What were they thinking?

More High Fashion Housing

Here are 2 more samples of these adorable birdhouses (from Dollar Tree) for the swap going on at my Yahoo list.

The Blue Birdhouse has the roof covered with a thin sheet of aluminum that I ran through my Sizzix in one of the embossing folders from Cuttlebug. (You could probably do the same with a pop can.) Once I had it folded around the edges I painted it with black acrylic paint and rubbed part of it off. The body of the birdhouse is crackle painted and then dry brushed to make it look weathered. The fence is glazed with a chocolate brown acrylic and the "moss" around the bottom is something called "Flower Soft". (It looks like the stuff that model train builders use to make trees and foliage.) I hung the beads by head pins that I glued into holes that I poked through the wood underneath. The surrounding metal flower around the entrance is punched with a circle punch then die cut with a flower and then run through an embossing folder by Quickutz.

The Paisley one is completely hand painted and took me three days to complete. All the dots are made with various sizes of embossing tools.

More Crazy Hats Again

I guess I am fascinated by the hats that women actually used to wear out in public. Most of this stuff any sane women would not be caught dead in. Amazing how fashions change huh!

What's In Style

I used to sew a lot so I have an affinity for the art work that you see adorning sewing patterns. Here are some from way back when shoulder pads were really necessary and a petticoat was always worn by the everyday housewife.

A Little Bird Told Me...

Click on the picture to see a larger view.

I was emailed by Tanya from my Yahoo group telling me about these cute little birdhouses she had found at Dollar Tree. I LOVED them so much I insisted we do a swap with them. These 2 are some of the samples I have been making so that my Yahoo group can get some inspiration. (I finished another one today but the topcoat of varnish has to dry before I can photograph it.)

Pink Frosting - I glued die cuts out of thick card stock on to the roof and front and then painted over the whole house with white. I then glazed it with a pink tone and then a dark chocolate tone and wiped off the excess glaze in between coats. I painted white ribbon roses in an antique rose color and glued them along the roofline and sprinkled micro pearls in between to fill in the gaps. I glued larger pearls around the base and micro beads along the tops of the pearls. As a final finish I rubbed a white wash over the whole birdhouse with a make-up sponge to bring out the die-cuts.

Black Jewel - I base coated the whole house in white and then I glued old book pages and german Scrap on to the roof. I took a dark chocolate colored glaze and rubbed it over the house and painted the trim the dark chocolate color. The jewels are from a scrapbooking sheet that I cut apart and used on every side of the birdhouse.

I hope to photograph the other birdhouse sometime tomorrow if I can do it outside before the rain comes.
